Start Date: Thursday, July 20, 2017 10:00 am - Saturday, September 02, 2017 4:00 pm
Duration: 1 Month, 13 Days, 6 Hours
Location: Erewash Museum

The Lally Gallery at Ilkeston’s Erewash Museum is hosting an exhibition of work by professional artists and craftspeople from 20th July to 2nd September. Paintings by artists Jill Barthorpe and Gillian Radcliffe will be accompanied by photographs from Scotland’s Sarah MacDonald and ceramics by Yorkshire Brian Holland in the Creative Coverage show.

Jill Barthorpe is a graduate of the Slade School of Art, who works both in London and at her studio in rural Lincolnshire. ‘For me the excitement of painting is trying to capture the “likeness” of things without slavish description... Similarly my approach to colour is to distil the essence and define the point of change rather than model the surface.’

Following a career as a freelance ceramic and textile sculptor and teacher, Gillian Radcliffe moved to Derbyshire where she started to paint in watercolour. ‘I love to travel and I sketch and photograph my subjects but complete paintings in the studio, where I find emotion recollected brings greater freedom of expression,’ says Gillian.

Photographer Sarah MacDonald tries, ‘whenever I can to turn the familiar into something unexpected.’ Brian Holland’s stoneware ceramics feature in many collections both private and civic, including the Musée de la Poterie in Sadirac, Bordeaux.
