Volunteer with us

Erewash Museum has an active community of over 50 volunteers. Without them we couldn't do the amazing work we do with our community. Whether you're looking for new ways to give back to your community, to meeting new people and make friends, to learning something new or getting experience for a CV there are so many ways to get involved.

Tea Room Team

We have about 20 active tea room volunteers who run our brilliant Old Stables Tea Room. Entirely volunteer led, this group help make income for the museum, help our visitors enjoy our busy event days, or chat to our weekly regular customers on quieter days. If you would like to do a fast paced, busy task ask about our Tea Room events team, or if you enjoy quieter more relaxed days with conversations with friendly staff and volunteers ask about our regular days. Get training and qualifications in food hygiene.

Collections Team

Our collections are what we call the artefacts the people of Erewash have given to the museum. Our team work behind to scenes to keep them in good order, to keep them safe from pests and other dangers and to research them to find out more great stories. We put on new exhibitions and look into how to use our artefacts for the public good. If you’d be interested in this the Collections team might be for you.

Events Team

Without our volunteers we couldn’t do our community events. Helping with tickets, manning the front gate, helping us keep people happy and busy across the site, setting up tents and tables, working with children making arts and crafts, seeing our fun displays and events. There is always so much to do on event days.

Practical Team

An old building like ours needs a lot of love. We help Erewash Borough Council staff in the job of keeping the museum looking lovely by doing extra maintenance in the gardens and the house. From sweeping leaves, tidying up the beds, painting the galleries, changing light bulbs and helping us build new pieces of exhibitions there are lots of roles in our practical teams.

Education

We work with about 25 local schools every year. They visit us on school trips, take our town tours, or borrow our resources boxes. Help the education team by supporting us for school trips, by creating fun activities for schools, or by creating and repairing resources in our boxes. Working with young people is so rewarding- help us make history fun!

If you’re not sure what role you’d like to do yet, that is fine too! We can set up a little bit of everything for you to try out.
You can volunteer as much or as little as you are able to, and we can find the roles available for you. There is no pressure- there should be something for everyone here. Come and talk to us to find out more.

We welcome volunteers of all different ability levels. We will make all reasonable adjustments to find roles that suit everyone.
If you would like to volunteer but want to discuss extra needs you may have, please come and talk to us. If you would like to, you can volunteer with your support worker.
